Welcome to Centenary's Ministry

BY - WITH - FOR Senior Adults!
We have a variety of activities that are aimed at the senior adults in our church and community. Be sure the view the Seniors' calendar of events!

Who is a Senior Adult?
A Senior Adult is one who has received their invitation to join AARP.
AARP says when you have reached your 50th birthday you are a Senior Adult. You decide for yourself if you are a Senior Adult.

Our Oldest Member
undefinedKen Carter turned 101 years old on Feb. 21, 2008.  Ken, a native of St. Louis, has been a member of Centenary Church since 1953.  He is pictured here with Pastor Jeff Long at his birthday party at the Chateau Girardeau Health Center.  (Long life runs in Ken's family.  His mother lived to be 104!!)

The Lunch Bunch
On March 5th we will meet at Dexter Bar-B-Que for lunch at 11:30 am. Call Martha at 651-5415 if you need a ride.

Mystery Dinner
Plans are in the works for a mystery dinner in March! Call Martha at 651-5415 if you have any questions, and check back here to find out more information!

Ministry to Our College Students
This is a card/note ministry that is being performed by Earl Johnson.  For those students for whom we have addresses, contact is made on the student's birthday and other special occasions such as during final exams, Christmas. Easter, etc. Call 651-5415 with your student's mailing address and birthdate.

Our Helping Hands Ministry
This ministry is for those in our congregation who are living in their own home and have minor jobs around the home that they can no longer handle.  You can call Paul/Pauline Bick at 334-2005 and you will get one or more handy persons arriving at your home to fix that drippy faucet, clean that gutter, or fix whatever it is that you need.

If the project is too big for Helping Hands Ministry to handle we will give you a suggestion of someone you can hire to take care of your need.

Transportation
For those who need a ride to the traditional worship service on Sunday morning, various meetings at our church, to a doctor's appointment or other places you may call the Sandersons at 651-5415. We need volunteers to provide this service, if you are able call the Sandersons.

Visitation
The Senior Ministers, Jim & Martha Sanderson make regular visits to the senior adults at Centenary.  This is a picture of Jewel, a long-time member, who recently moved to an assisted living facility in Bonne Terre.  The Sandersons visited her in August.  The Sandersons visit members on a regular basis.

Card Ministry
Plans are in the works for sending greeting cards to members of our congregation upon happy or sad occasions in their life - sympathy, surgery, birth of a baby, promotion, when someone receives a honor, etc.

Sunday School
We have four classes that are made up in part or in full by Senior Adults. One is taught by Dr. Peter Hilty; another by Shirley Stevens; one by Dick Giles and one by Ron Hahs.

Volunteer Opportunities for Senior Adults
There are lots of ways to help at Centenary.  We need card-writers, telephone-callers, broom-sweepers, handy-persons, Circuit Rider folders, and the list goes on.  Remember that it takes a village to operate a healthy church and there are ways for anyone to help!  If you have spare time and would like to volunteer, please call Jim and/or Martha Sanderson at 651-5415.
Telephone Assurance Program (TAP)
This is a daily telephone contact by a designated person to a Senior Adult who lives alone in their home. We need adults who would be willing to make one call each day.  Contact the Sandersons at 651-5415.

Learning Opportunities
There are many ways to enrich your faith at Centenary.  This winter there's a new women's group study of Psalms, and there's the knitting group (they even teach you how to knit, if need be).  Explore the website and you'll find something of interest.
